The internationally famous
MC Router is known for many things. Founding member and the lyrical half of 1337 g33k b3at in 2004 (with producer t-byte), Router immediately began receiving attention for her ultra geeky rhymes and references after they dropped their debut album. Stand out tracks like “Emulation Station” and “Bill Gates Revolution” quickly cemented her status as “The First Lady of Nerdcore” and not JUST because she was the first female nerd mc.
Two years later the hiphop trio “Tri Forc3″ was formed (with Beefy and Shael Riley), combining this Texan native with two of the most prominent nerdcore forces in the northwest. The resulting track “mint potion” (an ode to peppermint schnapps and sloe gin) remains in playlists to this very day and has been included on countless releases and nerdcore mixtapes.
Router also has been a public defender of the scene itself. After wired magazine published an article in 07 from an ex-intern describing his view of the nerdcore, many people involved in the scene were pissed and felt completely misrepresented. MC Router immediately shot back with a letter and a song entitled “UNwired.” After the dust settled, the song was a success even at the magazine itself, and a (heavily censored, rofl) copy of her letter was printed alongside an apology from the editors. Router wins again!
So it’s official, she really is the first lady of nerdcore, and these days you can still catch her touring and doing shows, between the heavy hours she puts in at a major video game studio. That’s TWO jobs a nerd would KILL for… How’s THAT for geek life?
