Business casual attire and thick rimmed glasses might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of hiphop. It’s the exact opposite when you’re listening to nerdcore hiphop. I’m referencing the “Godfather” of the nerdcore genre, MC Frontalot. One of the first, and definitely one of the best artists to check out when diving into the realm of video game culture. You might have seen him in his 30 second g4 clip alongside veterans like YTCracker and MC Lars. Or, if you’ve got your game face on, at the annual gaming convention, Penny Arcade Expo.
Being nerdy, white, and in your mid thirties definitely doesn’t stop Damian Hess (Frontalot) from taking hiphop to another level. He is reigning champ on the popular song competition website, Song Fight! , as well as the the favorite artist of the guys over at Penny Arcade Because of the positive exposure, his internet following is unmatched.
Frontalot definitely brings something unique to the table (and I don’t mean table top, you geeks), with his extensive vocabulary and his articulate delivery. There isn’t another artist in the genre that is as verbose. His style alone is enough for me to truly appreciate nerdcore hiphop. Oh, and the fact that he came up with the term “nerdcore”. We definitely can’t forget that, now can we?
